Kawasan Canyoneering
Description
The Kanlaob River (also known as Matutinao River) was discovered by the local residents of Matutinao, Badian and Compostela, Alegria. Around 2001, a group of foreigners who stayed in Moalboal, did a mountain exploration in Barangay Matutinao (where Kawasan Falls is located) for them to have an additional activity to their scuba diving visitors. Scuba diving during that time is booming in Maolboal, a town next to Badian. These foreigners together with our local residents, were among the first who introduced the activity and they called it canyoning or canyoneering.
In Wikipedia, canyoning means "traveling in a canyons using a variety of techniques that may include other outdoor activity such as walking, scrambling, climbing, jumping, rappelling and swimming”. There are two types of canyoneering, we can do it upstream or downstream. The downstream canyoneering will start at Barangay Sulsogan, Badian (about 5 kms. away from the hub) and end up to Kawasan Falls. On the other hand, upstream canyoneering start at Kawasan Falls in which we will bring ropes in order for you to climb up to a several waterfalls and end up at Barangay Sulsogan, Badian.
