My aunt (she is from Luzon area) has told me about these locations there they sit on stilts over the high tide of the ocean. Next year, i will be able to see more in person when i go over to live there. Its sad when these collapse and the folks lose pretty much everything.
Yes sir! They are some of the most resilient folks that I have ever met. Traveled the world, and the most peace I have ever found was in the “Third-world countries.(Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Taiwan, Vietnam, Panama, and a few others)” The generosity and kindness is abundant in those places.
You can tell that the older kids know more English. Love that it’s proof that the locals are smarter than a lot of the untraveled people in other countries. I look forward to seeing a fishing trip and how they collect clams, cause here we go to the beach once a year with shovels to collect clams. Grandma watches over the younger family members while the adults are other cities working. Freaking awesome view form the window. Most people would kill for that view.

i grew up spending my time during school holidays in malaysia where there would be like 20 people in a house sleeping on wooden flooring. i remember being wary of spiders, scorpions and flying roaches. we didnt have a toilet so we would do our business by digging the soil. i remember vividly, feeling so happy as a kid, having friends around.
Lovely young ladies and such an accomodating community. I wonder if they’d be allowed to start a sustainable aquaculture farm to increase their yields. If they have access to unglazed clay pottery you can set that in an out of the way spot inside and it will act as a heat sink. Only lowers the temperature slightly, but every bit helps.
@Q AdventuresI just thought of a gift you can give these types of settlements if you get enough donations to help. There’s a variety of bamboo called Timber Bamboo. They could grow and cultivate that for building material. If they could get a hold of concrete you can even drill the centers out and pour that in to make it durable enough to withstand the bad storms.

I literally can’t understand why so many people view vlogs, but they don’t hit that thumbs up bottom. Anyone I follow on YouTube I always hit the thumbs up and view there vlogs. Your vlogs are awesome, coz it’s cool to see how these people live there lives and so beautiful and friendly they are. I know about province life, coz that’s were my girlfriend is from and I have experienced it twice now already.
I had a good laugh when you stood over the plywood and wondered if it would support your weight😅 Anyhow, great video Derek. As you said, it seems like such a friendly community. The recurring thing that stands out to me when you’ve done some of the village visits is always the warm smiles of such hardworking locals despite humble living quarters.

@William Hawks I don’t think I feel “bad” for how they live because they don’t seem to feel bad for the way they live. Aside from some modern conveniences they seem to have the perfect life. A solid community and family support system, knowledge and skills to live from the earth without outside help. I do feel bad for how they seem to be treated by most outsiders assuming since they don’t have an abundance of money they are less than anyone else when clearly bye watching this video they have much more to offer humanity than most of society judging them.
These videos make me want to pack a bag now instead of sticking to my plan. The friendliness and humility is like no other. Do you plan on making more content there? If that’s the case I think both LJ and Jericho (imp sure I spelt it wrong) could be some very valuable resources. If anyone in the Q community is up for projects I have some ideas. First dance your free ice cream video is one of my all time favorites maybe looking into renting or hiring and ice cream truck for all the kids in the neighborhood to have a treat. Second, maybe some new floors and or a bunk bed for LJ’s Grandmas house, that seems very tight quarters and the floors make me nervous and also maybe a fan for poor little Julie, she seems like she takes the heat about as well as me haha.
I see these videos and I reflect back on Marylynn and Gel and the impact your community made in helping, even if it is a small change to some it can be much more than that to those on the other end.
You know from the beginning when I originally reached out it was because I love these culture videos and a look into the lives of other countries in a real world aspect of everyday life but I don’t usually agree with how many expats do it. Where you are different in that you actually care about the culture as well as the people you are filming and try to help if its possible. That’s what makes your content awesome.
So if you are planning on visiting again for content maybe in exchange for showing you and us their culture on a more in depth level we as a community could try to pay it back a little with some small projects. Just my two sense of course.

@Q Adventures yea that’s a valid point. Also, where I live I purchased and old farmhouse on a few acres several years ago. I tore down an old garage and a couple old buildings. I dug a hole and burned it, tore out some half dead trees. I watch your vids thinking of how much we waste, I wasted. It is what it is, I guess, but that village could have built a few more houses with the crap I dumped.
@loner reclaimed wood is very popular now and fetching top dollar. the old saying is they just don’t make it like they used to and that goes for wood to. the old stuff without all the poisons that’s almost petrified from natural aging. Oh well, you live and learn.

I would rather live the life they do and be happy rather than the life here in America… where we work our fingers to the bone just to barely afford food and housing and live a life full of stress……. We could learn so much from Filipinos and how you don’t have to have the nicest things just to be happy.
@Sway376 I’m American, and retired. But when I was working, along with my wife, were were lower middle class… not rich at all. But, we still have our home paid off, cars paid off, and have a decent savings. I didn’t mind working my fingers to the bone because I can finally relax in my old age, and at the same time, help poor people like the Filipinos when I can. Hard workers are the same everywhere. We just have different jobs. I don’t believe that poor, hard working Filipinos don’t live without stress, just because they’re friendly and happy. The children, with good parents, are oblivious to that stress, unless they lose a beloved family member.

I learned clam harvesting and freediving in Mactan and Pardo, Cebu. Mactan used to be the Boracay of Visayas. White sand beaches. The only buildings in Mactan were Timex Watch factory and the tiny Cebu Airport that was in 1980.
Yeah… since then, foreign money has bought up and developed on most of the land. I am surprised that this community still exists and belong to the locals

@Q Adventures All it takes is one bad visit from someone that comes with you, to hurt your relationship with the community. I’d be careful with that. They may have evil intentions. Maybe, you should visit this person (and others) for a few days, just to get to know them, before taking them with you. The porn industry and child trafficking are very real. I’m sure, you’d hate to see something bad happen to those girls, and other children that live there.
I blame the degradation of discipline and education in the U.S. public schools on the teachers’ unions. They’re a greedy bunch, and the children’s education takes a backseat. There’s a teachers’ union talking about going from a 5-day school week to a 4-day school week. It’s all about what they can take for themselves.
I initially did not as I work on a bigger picture if you have seen my other videos. I met with LJ and Jericho today and made a descent contribution to their college funds and this is only the beginning. Again, the bigger picture
People that live in real poverty (something few Americans have ever experienced) are humble, happy and incredibly friendly. This should give us a wake up call to the things that are truly important and what we take for granted. Love this video!

I always been a fascinated with the idea that people live that close to each other and don’t fight. It’s mush like the American Indian. One tent and all the families sleeping and eating under one roof.
I really enjoyed watching this video. Everyone is so friendly. Got to love the people. I could see the expansion of new homes being built. When I say homes, shacks. We have seen this type of housing in the depression of the US . Using what ever to build a home. The poor housing. But they survive and thrive as well.

In the Filipino culture, family is important and in the navy they stick together like family no matter if they are related or not…. I interrupted some of their karaoke food parties! One food that’s very underrated is their homemade beef stew which looks similar to Pho soups, but taste equally good.
@Q Adventurescorrection on the actual name of their beef stew… it’s actually called beef Lauya, but this particular Filipino navy chief that made it for himself and because I was there, he offered some to me, and again when he made it again I was more than ready for more than one bowl, he made a bit extra. He said, it was beef stew, but when you look for phillipino beef stew, it looks more like American beef stew. Looking at Beef Lauya looks like what I had. What a nice touring of this neighborhood with such wonderful people really. And notice despite the minimalistic way of living how fashionable they present themselves. If you see them walking in the mall like that you wouldn’t really imagine they go back home to such minimalistic homes sleeping with 6 up to 11 people in such small place. I really love communities like that and imagine I would love to spend an evening on that “balcony” playing checkers and chicka-chicka, how peaceful 😊
I also loved the way how you interact with the people here. Very relaxed and respectful which shows in there hospitable and relaxing way of responding. They surely did not felt ashamed or embarrassed towards you as a westerner which they should not obvious. I think your intentions, attitude and general character as a human being, will determine if getting back out is easy. They seem like a very humble friendly quite community but with that usually comes strong community bonds, so it’s my guess if you offend or do one of them wrong you probably have a problem with all of them.

But asking these people to go inside and look and criticque there living areas and asking them how many people are sleeping in that small room. You said you watched the videos about Marylyn’s family, did you watch the updates? How the upstairs was fixed up and the proper stairs were built for their safety. Now they found out that the government is relocating them at the end of the year so he is trying to help the family with that as well. I can understand your frustration with American vloggers exploiting Filipino’s for clicks and views and not giving back but trust me that is not what this community is about. Look at the comments in this video from this community wanting to help people not hurt them or ridicule them but offer a hand up because they seem like good people who deserve it.
You said you have grown up “around” Philippine people in Hawaii and then offer your opinion yet I just watched a fine Filipino gentleman Gericho, in this very video, who from all aspects seems to be raised right with a very good education THANK HIM for what he is doing in sharing the culture and putting it on YouTube for everyone to see. Filipino people are simple, humble, respectful, we are trained to call Sir or Ma’am in School since from Kindergarten to College, English is taught in School we are happy of what God provided us. Most foreign Western people look at us Filipino are below poverty level like our house, employment and our way of living. In the West people are spoiled and they want convenience, they want everything nearby like Grocery Stores, Banks, Hospitals, Entertainment Centers Markets and more, but they don’t realize they also have poverty in the West or U.S. homelessness like in the U.S. high crimes, violence, racism, Ghetto neighborhoods, I miss the Philippines my native Land the Philippines Bisaya people are proud people!…🇵🇭 ☀

Gericho spent several minutes thanking him for visiting the community and showing their culture on his channel. Other adults were clearly making themselves available to talk to him on camera and the community invited him back to do more content. None of which appears to be in line with your comment but the exact opposite of it. To think that those grown men sitting on that dock, one of which was one of the girls father I believe, would not have spoke up if they felt someone was intruding or imposing on their family or neighbors is the true insult of your comment. Just because they don’t come from alot of money doesn’t mean they don’t have a voice to stand for what they believe in or protect their loved ones.

I think many province girls may not were makeup at home or hanging around the neighborhood, I think makeup on Filipina students and workers especially in more populated areas is pretty common. As far as the trafficked part he is in their community and talks with their families, with the living conditions being as cramped as they seem to be there I think the last thing anyone of them would want is an extra mouth to feed or to find space for someone to sleep if they weren’t family. Tita Sheila suggested I came back. These girls were most likely informed by Tita that a vlogger is coming through so they put on makeup. That was a great video , we as Americans sure take what we have for granted , and even here we’re not like them with our families . There wonderful people that live there lives and away from busy cities .. we have running water, electricity , and anything we need but fir them they don’t and they make due on what they have and there humble .. there very compassionate people .. luv the Philippinos there so different than Americans .. beautiful people ..
@kevinthomas1513 from my point of view us Americans have every convenience anyone could ever ask for but no time to relax and enjoy many of them. Sometimes it seems like a race to the finish for no prize. Along the way we as a society lose alot of morals and values, especially when it comes to family which is commonly scattered across the country at the very least. My grandmother was the only person I ever met that could “Command” a family gathering that everyone attended, and I mean everyone in the family from all over the country, but those days seem to be long gone for many. They may be economically disadvantaged but definitely not “poor” like many think.
I’m a American and this video sure brings light on how greatful we have it here would luv to visit mactian island and see there culture and probably sleep there few nights and experience how they live . And help them what I can . The 4 gurls in ur video they are humble and they are injoying there lives .. we can’t understand there lives until we live there lives.. but as a American I feel they deserve better .. we give other countries so much money but dint even consider helping the philoppines .. but if I ever meet a woman like urself she would be my everything aswell. @qadventures I am qurious how it works… how often hurricane come? Must they rebuilt their houses like every 10 years? Is there any way to protect such house – use some anchor with ropes? Do they own the land, or renting it? I mean if they built twice big house will they pay more? Or is there some limitation for house size?
Good question. They don’t own the land. The government just allows them to utilize the land until the government has purpose then they will be evicted. Very common in the Philippines as poverty is rampant.
As for building, construction costs is extremely limited. Most building materials are scrap as you see from the stilts. They are a mixture of wood and bamboo, whatever they can scrap. Cutting costs and building with the cheapest material is a common practice for these neighborhoods. You can spend more, but the typhoon can destroy it just as easily or take the neighbor’s house down and drag yours with ith as most house are attached structurally.
There are solutions like building floating houses. I have intention to lead some projects but finances are always an issue. I am hoping to reach a big enough following where I can average 35k views on each of my videos and I will invest some resources to start these projects. Donations are great contributions but not reliable. Someone can promise something and never materialize. I also had a few monthly contributions that got canceled after 2 months. I just hate to let people down so I wait until my channel is self sufficient

@Q Adventures The tide is high when the moon is directly above or directly below. So it’s about every 12 hours. The time depends on the phase of the moon. Any weather website will tell you the times of the tides.

Are you saying, these people wouldn’t accept any charity because they’re too proud to take it? If done right, everyone would love any acknowledgement of their struggles to live and accept charity if offered. I think this vlogger gave good questions without being insulting or degrading, and that helped people like me to understand them better. There is a definite danger of abusing and taking advantage of the situation, which could hurt the innocence and goodness of these people.

I would help these people if I was there, but my wife would never allow me to go, and I don’t blame her 😉 With all the thieves/scammers in the world today, there’s no way I’d give to someone to give for me. The Filipinos may never get my gifts. I do feel for them. I think those parents would still enjoy a mattress on the floor. Rats/mice might try to live in the mattress… I don’t know.

Are there houses for rent or hotels near this place? Because in reality, I would like to get to know these friendly, kind people who always carry optimism in their faces, despite these living conditions.
I ask YouTubers if making money by intruding into the privacy of poor people in the Philippines or other countries is ethically or morally correct. That people in the Philippines (and other poor countries) are kind, and sometimes as a result of that reverential view that they have of us (foreigners) they allow us to enter the privacy of their homes, is sufficient justification to expose their intimacies, when as youtubers we are not going to solve the shortcomings in their living conditions. Isn’t it enough to show your streets and neighborhoods? Isn’t it a bit of an attack on people’s dignity with these types of videos?
Do you ask these people for permission to upload their private lives to YouTube?
If that were the case for you, would you like people to go around showing their private selves?
How far do our freedoms go and how far does our consideration for human dignity go?
I don’t want this to be taken the wrong way, nor do I claim that the social conditions of many people in the world should be hidden for the sake of it, but I don’t see Europeans and North Americans letting strange people invade their privacy.
But I would like to leave this reflection for this channel and hundreds of others that do the same around the world.

I understand your concern. My take is, privacy and living standard is man-made and differs from culture to culture. Without digging to deep into a topic I have no background on, this community invited me back after I inquired on a day where it was empty and everyone was at work and school. Thereafter, I was invited back multiple times. From that gesture, I obviously did not sense the feel of intrusion.
After posting the videos, multiple members of the community had become subscribers and regular viewers of my content. They have read comments, and I am sure that includes yours. Not only do they not mind, they also feel a sense of pride for someone like myself who took the time to turn on the camera so they can say their peace on their topics that have been far overlooked.
I cannot speak on behalf of other tubers as I am guilty of not being a consumer on this platform, I walk with with utmost respect and edit out whatever negative feedbacks I have from my subjects. Although I have not earned the title of Philanthropist, I am working hard to pursue philanthropy work and the kids of every community I have entered stand to benefit (educationally) from external help.

I would not even stop these filipinas in getting theser foreign partners, love or not, why? because it is good for the economy. No sense in preaching about family because fililipinas are too westernized. So, Filipinas keep doing it to get you out of poverty and keep spending.
I brought my 10 yr old on for his entire summer vacation 7 yrs ago. After observing what kids his age has access to or lack thereof, he went home a humbled 10 yr old. From asking to go to toys r us every Saturday to asking for his birthday expenditures be donated in lieu of buying him gifts

My aunt (she is from Luzon area) has told me about these locations there they sit on stilts over the high tide of the ocean. Next year, i will be able to see more in person when i go over to live there. Its sad when these collapse and the folks lose pretty much everything.

Yes sir! They are some of the most resilient folks that I have ever met. Traveled the world, and the most peace I have ever found was in the “Third-world countries.(Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Taiwan, Vietnam, Panama, and a few others)” The generosity and kindness is abundant in those places.
You can tell that the older kids know more English. Love that it’s proof that the locals are smarter than a lot of the untraveled people in other countries. I look forward to seeing a fishing trip and how they collect clams, cause here we go to the beach once a year with shovels to collect clams. Grandma watches over the younger family members while the adults are other cities working. Freaking awesome view form the window. Most people would kill for that view.

i grew up spending my time during school holidays in malaysia where there would be like 20 people in a house sleeping on wooden flooring. i remember being wary of spiders, scorpions and flying roaches. we didnt have a toilet so we would do our business by digging the soil. i remember vividly, feeling so happy as a kid, having friends around.
Lovely young ladies and such an accomodating community. I wonder if they’d be allowed to start a sustainable aquaculture farm to increase their yields. If they have access to unglazed clay pottery you can set that in an out of the way spot inside and it will act as a heat sink. Only lowers the temperature slightly, but every bit helps.
Good question. But what I know for sure is they don’t have the finances to make that happen
@Q AdventuresI just thought of a gift you can give these types of settlements if you get enough donations to help. There’s a variety of bamboo called Timber Bamboo. They could grow and cultivate that for building material. If they could get a hold of concrete you can even drill the centers out and pour that in to make it durable enough to withstand the bad storms.

@William Hawks I don’t think I feel “bad” for how they live because they don’t seem to feel bad for the way they live. Aside from some modern conveniences they seem to have the perfect life. A solid community and family support system, knowledge and skills to live from the earth without outside help. I do feel bad for how they seem to be treated by most outsiders assuming since they don’t have an abundance of money they are less than anyone else when clearly bye watching this video they have much more to offer humanity than most of society judging them.
These videos make me want to pack a bag now instead of sticking to my plan. The friendliness and humility is like no other. Do you plan on making more content there? If that’s the case I think both LJ and Jericho (imp sure I spelt it wrong) could be some very valuable resources. If anyone in the Q community is up for projects I have some ideas. First dance your free ice cream video is one of my all time favorites maybe looking into renting or hiring and ice cream truck for all the kids in the neighborhood to have a treat. Second, maybe some new floors and or a bunk bed for LJ’s Grandmas house, that seems very tight quarters and the floors make me nervous and also maybe a fan for poor little Julie, she seems like she takes the heat about as well as me haha.
I see these videos and I reflect back on Marylynn and Gel and the impact your community made in helping, even if it is a small change to some it can be much more than that to those on the other end.
You know from the beginning when I originally reached out it was because I love these culture videos and a look into the lives of other countries in a real world aspect of everyday life but I don’t usually agree with how many expats do it. Where you are different in that you actually care about the culture as well as the people you are filming and try to help if its possible. That’s what makes your content awesome.
So if you are planning on visiting again for content maybe in exchange for showing you and us their culture on a more in depth level we as a community could try to pay it back a little with some small projects. Just my two sense of course.

I dug a hole and burned it, tore out some half dead trees. I watch your vids thinking of how much we waste, I wasted. It is what it is, I guess, but that village could have built a few more houses with the crap I dumped.
@loner reclaimed wood is very popular now and fetching top dollar. the old saying is they just don’t make it like they used to and that goes for wood to. the old stuff without all the poisons that’s almost petrified from natural aging. Oh well, you live and learn.

It’s a hard life in the Philippines for people living like that but they are content with what they have. 🙂
Hard for us if we have to live like them. But I sense this is normalcy for them.
I would rather live the life they do and be happy rather than the life here in America… where we work our fingers to the bone just to barely afford food and housing and live a life full of stress……. We could learn so much from Filipinos and how you don’t have to have the nicest things just to be happy.
@Sway376 I’m American, and retired. But when I was working, along with my wife, were were lower middle class… not rich at all. But, we still have our home paid off, cars paid off, and have a decent savings. I didn’t mind working my fingers to the bone because I can finally relax in my old age, and at the same time, help poor people like the Filipinos when I can. Hard workers are the same everywhere. We just have different jobs. I don’t believe that poor, hard working Filipinos don’t live without stress, just because they’re friendly and happy. The children, with good parents, are oblivious to that stress, unless they lose a beloved family member.

I learned clam harvesting and freediving in Mactan and Pardo, Cebu. Mactan used to be the Boracay of Visayas. White sand beaches. The only buildings in Mactan were Timex Watch factory and the tiny Cebu Airport that was in 1980.
Yeah… since then, foreign money has bought up and developed on most of the land. I am surprised that this community still exists and belong to the locals

Maybe, you should visit this person (and others) for a few days, just to get to know them, before taking them with you. The porn industry and child trafficking are very real. I blame the degradation of discipline and education in the U.S. public schools on the teachers’ unions. They’re a greedy bunch, and the children’s education takes a backseat. There’s a teachers’ union talking about going from a 5-day school week to a 4-day school week. It’s all about what they can take for themselves.
I hope you gave those kids and their families something for the content you got from them to help them out.

We have seen this type of housing in the depression of the US . Using what ever to build a home. The poor housing. But they survive and thrive as well.

In the Filipino culture, family is important and in the navy they stick together like family no matter if they are related or not…. I interrupted some of their karaoke food parties! One food that’s very underrated is their homemade beef stew which looks similar to Pho soups, but taste equally good.

@Q Adventurescorrection on the actual name of their beef stew… it’s actually called beef Lauya, but this particular Filipino navy chief that made it for himself and because I was there, he offered some to me, and again when he made it again I was more than ready for more than one bowl, he made a bit extra. He said, it was beef stew, but when you look for phillipino beef stew, it looks more like American beef stew. Looking at Beef Lauya looks like what I had. What a nice touring of this neighborhood with such wonderful people really. And notice despite the minimalistic way of living how fashionable they present themselves. If you see them walking in the mall like that you wouldn’t really imagine they go back home to such minimalistic homes sleeping with 6 up to 11 people in such small place. I really love communities like that and imagine I would love to spend an evening on that “balcony” playing checkers and chicka-chicka, how peaceful 😊
I also loved the way how you interact with the people here. Very relaxed and respectful which shows in there hospitable and relaxing way of responding. They surely did not felt ashamed or embarrassed towards you as a westerner which they should not obvious. Mission success, everyone was and still is very happy ❤ What a great people 👍🏼 I just returned back home from Cebu and I really miss it already.

I think your intentions, attitude and general character as a human being, will determine if getting back out is easy. They seem like a very humble friendly quite community but with that usually comes strong community bonds, so it’s my guess if you offend or do one of them wrong you probably have a problem with all of them.

But asking these people to go inside and look and criticque there living areas and asking them how many people are sleeping in that small room. You said you watched the videos about Marylyn’s family, did you watch the updates? How the upstairs was fixed up and the proper stairs were built for their safety. Now they found out that the government is relocating them at the end of the year so he is trying to help the family with that as well. I can understand your frustration with American vloggers exploiting Filipino’s for clicks and views and not giving back but trust me that is not what this community is about. Look at the comments in this video from this community wanting to help people not hurt them or ridicule them but offer a hand up because they seem like good people who deserve it.

Filipino people are simple, humble, respectful, we are trained to call Sir or Ma’am in School since from Kindergarten to College, English is taught in School we are happy of what God provided us. Most foreign Western people look at us Filipino are below poverty level like our house, employment and our way of living. In the West people are spoiled and they want convenience, they want everything nearby like Grocery Stores, Banks, Hospitals, Entertainment Centers Markets and more, but they don’t realize they also have poverty in the West or U.S. homelessness like in the U.S. high crimes, violence, racism, Ghetto neighborhoods, I miss the Philippines my native Land the Philippines Bisaya people are proud people!…🇵🇭 ☀

Other adults were clearly making themselves available to talk to him on camera and the community invited him back to do more content. None of which appears to be in line with your comment but the exact opposite of it. To think that those grown men sitting on that dock, one of which was one of the girls father I believe, would not have spoke up if they felt someone was intruding or imposing on their family or neighbors is the true insult of your comment. Just because they don’t come from alot of money doesn’t mean they don’t have a voice to stand for what they believe in or protect their loved ones.

I think many province girls may not were makeup at home or hanging around the neighborhood, I think makeup on Filipina students and workers especially in more populated areas is pretty common. As far as the trafficked part he is in their community and talks with their families, with the living conditions being as cramped as they seem to be there I think the last thing anyone of them would want is an extra mouth to feed or to find space for someone to sleep if they weren’t family. I observed a close nitch community full of friends and family living of the sea. Not what you suggested

@kevinthomas1513 from my point of view us Americans have every convenience anyone could ever ask for but no time to relax and enjoy many of them. Sometimes it seems like a race to the finish for no prize. Along the way we as a society lose alot of morals and values, especially when it comes to family which is commonly scattered across the country at the very least. My grandmother was the only person I ever met that could “Command” a family gathering that everyone attended, and I mean everyone in the family from all over the country, but those days seem to be long gone for many. They may be economically disadvantaged but definitely not “poor” like many think.
I’m a American and this video sure brings light on how greatful we have it here would luv to visit mactian island and see there culture and probably sleep there few nights and experience how they live . And help them what I can . The 4 gurls in ur video they are humble and they are injoying there lives .. we can’t understand there lives until we live there lives.. but as a American I feel they deserve better .. we give other countries so much money but dint even consider helping the philoppines .. but if I ever meet a woman like urself she would be my everything aswell. @qadventures I am qurious how it works… how often hurricane come? Must they rebuilt their houses like every 10 years? Is there any way to protect such house – use some anchor with ropes? Do they own the land, or renting it? I mean if they built twice big house will they pay more? Or is there some limitation for house size?
Good question. They don’t own the land. The government just allows them to utilize the land until the government has purpose then they will be evicted. Very common in the Philippines as poverty is rampant.
As for building, construction costs is extremely limited. Most building materials are scrap as you see from the stilts. They are a mixture of wood and bamboo, whatever they can scrap. Cutting costs and building with the cheapest material is a common practice for these neighborhoods. You can spend more, but the typhoon can destroy it just as easily or take the neighbor’s house down and drag yours with ith as most house are attached structurally.
There are solutions like building floating houses. I have intention to lead some projects but finances are always an issue. I am hoping to reach a big enough following where I can average 35k views on each of my videos and I will invest some resources to start these projects. Donations are great contributions but not reliable. Someone can promise something and never materialize. I also had a few monthly contributions that got canceled after 2 months. I just hate to let people down so I wait until my channel is self sufficient

I would be the first to agree with you, but I saw nothing disrespectful or nefariously done by this foreigner that would warrant any suspicion. And he did talk with others in the girls’ families when he was able to. I believe, the bigger problem might be with the ideas and thoughts that enter the minds of some of the video’s viewers, which some of the comments are proving to be true.

If done right, everyone would love any acknowledgement of their struggles to live and accept charity if offered. I think this vlogger gave good questions without being insulting or degrading, and that helped people like me to understand them better. There is a definite danger of abusing and taking advantage of the situation, which could hurt the innocence and goodness of these people.

There are thousands of communities like these all over the Philippines
I ask YouTubers if making money by intruding into the privacy of poor people in the Philippines or other countries is ethically or morally correct. That people in the Philippines (and other poor countries) are kind, and sometimes as a result of that reverential view that they have of us (foreigners) they allow us to enter the privacy of their homes, is sufficient justification to expose their intimacies, when as youtubers we are not going to solve the shortcomings in their living conditions. Isn’t it enough to show your streets and neighborhoods? Isn’t it a bit of an attack on people’s dignity with these types of videos?
Do you ask these people for permission to upload their private lives to YouTube?
If that were the case for you, would you like people to go around showing their private selves?
How far do our freedoms go and how far does our consideration for human dignity go?
I don’t want this to be taken the wrong way, nor do I claim that the social conditions of many people in the world should be hidden for the sake of it, but I don’t see Europeans and North Americans letting strange people invade their privacy.
But I would like to leave this reflection for this channel and hundreds of others that do the same around the world.

I understand your concern. My take is, privacy and living standard is man-made and differs from culture to culture. Without digging to deep into a topic I have no background on, this community invited me back after I inquired on a day where it was empty and everyone was at work and school. Thereafter, I was invited back multiple times. From that gesture, I obviously did not sense the feel of intrusion.
After posting the videos, multiple members of the community had become subscribers and regular viewers of my content. They have read comments, and I am sure that includes yours. Not only do they not mind, they also feel a sense of pride for someone like myself who took the time to turn on the camera so they can say their peace on their topics that have been far overlooked.
I cannot speak on behalf of other tubers as I am guilty of not being a consumer on this platform, I walk with with utmost respect and edit out whatever negative feedbacks I have from my subjects. Although I have not earned the title of Philanthropist, I am working hard to pursue philanthropy work and the kids of every community I have entered stand to benefit (educationally) from external help.

I brought my 10 yr old on for his entire summer vacation 7 yrs ago. After observing what kids his age has access to or lack thereof, he went home a humbled 10 yr old. From asking to go to toys r us every Saturday to asking for his birthday expenditures be donated in lieu of buying him gifts
