  • So sad to see how dirty it is and all garbage and plastic ☹️ Dont have to be like that just cause you are poor.

    • And no word about the ugly high rise buildings? And no word about the left over concrete piles ? ( or are it dead coral reefs?)

  • It was the same way at Clark Air Force Base when I was their. people living in cardboard box’s for a home and right next door a beautiful big house.

    • People forget that their gardeners, security guards, maids, and trike drivers need a place to live. A heck of a lot wealthy communities have informal settlements right outside the walls…

    • @@aboveitall9600exactly. And when those people try to do something about it and organize themselves, they are exterminated as “ communists “

    • when you have nothing to eat the last thing you worry about is where you trow trash , the wealthier people are the more they care about these things for these people its all about survival .

    • There’s probably no weekly trash pickup service. I’ve heard that’s a big problem in areas of the Philippines especially for the poor. So they don’t have a good method to dispose trash other than to burn.

    • They are trying to survive. Environmental concerns are not a priority when you’re just struggling to survive and feed your family……

  • My guess is the locals are so busy with life that they don’t even see the big buildings. 👍🏼♥️🇨🇦

  • Great video and thanks for the goat advice… city goat is not as tasty…. well…they say… you are what you eat…

With no money for trash disposal… it ends up everywhere unfortunately.

Very tough to govern 8,000 islands with 180 different languages and dialects.

Regulations and laws are difficult if not impossible for these micro encampments.

Takes lots and lots of money to clean up in any country.

Canada is blessed for garbage… 2nd biggest country in the entire world and a population of only 40 million ish …. we have heavy-duty fines for people who toss stuff… but it still happens here too… unfortunately, there are always some who just don’t get the BIG picture.

    Thanks Derek

  • I think the reason some vloggers like making this kind of contents about poor people is they get to make themselves look smart as if they care and also feel like rockstars in provinces. I’d like to see you talk to educated well off people like that in places like BGC and other modern cities 😇👍! The reason most vloggers don’t is because they either get ignored or don’t get much attention 👍😇!

    • You mean like Karens in the west? Look at my other videos before you chirp. Slowly, but surely, I create opportunities for locals. I am funding college education for local kids with my YouTube earnings.

    • @@peteperico8814 That is truly a hash judgement of people you don’t even know. Derek has done more for his adopted country than you can even begin to imagine!

    • Fact: I have met Derek after watching the story of late Kevin. He is genuine.
You definitely have not seen his travel vlogs. You have no idea about his background, family life, business model – whatever.
In case you do not know: you can always alter a comment if you concede it was improper

  • No, whats really sad is reading judgmental comments by entitled Karens on the living condition of some of the most beautiful hearted & very humble folk who by whatever circumstance find themselves on the other side of the tracks are still able too thrive amid the many luxurious amenities towering above this community is in my very own opinion is in fact the point being made with this video…and in typical fashion instead of looking for the great humanity inside these ppl making do with less possessions we get annoying observations as if these locals have access too weekly waste management operations like us that have these very privileges in the west…boy, the audacity of it all…smmfh 🙄

    sorry not sorry 😅

    • Wow!!! Well said. All I am saying is to be responsible business owners and care for your neighbors

    • It’s always an eye opener when I see the comments you’re talking about. I spent over 7 years in and around the Philippines. When I first came back to the states I was disgusted with American’s treatment of dogs. It bothered me that these American pets were better fed than many of the people I had interacted with. Still bothers me when I read judgmental comments from people that have no clue at all

    • No, do not sorry. It surprised me as well how much focus there is on the trash instead of the real life of these residents

  • Come on viewers, just over 1,300 views and only 102 likes. SMH🤯

    👍🏼👍👍🏼👍👍🏼👍👍🏼👍👍🏼

    • @@woutergijs5246 Displaced.

If the land was open or vacant to build on, who originally owned it…? Ask the elders of any aboriginal tribe.

Governments take the Sovereignty away from the original natives.

    • I see a lowland area where there has been high rise building construction. And all of the leftover concrete has been thrown on piles.

  • Ya, very sad to see this. Most Filipinas are taught English in school. Those that cant afford school only learn their local dialect unfortunately.
Their is hardly any garbage collection done in the Philippines. Burn it, throw it down the hill, or in the creek that goes out to sea, is the way its disposed of mostly.
    Take care Derek,…Jim

    • But where is the sadness? We see 2 young ladies who like each other’s companionship as half sisters. We did not hear them complain. All the rest are our western presumptions

  • I wonder if any people in the community work in the fancy buildings – how much the rent is as well.

    • These condos are mostly 1 or 2 bedrooms and range from $200 to $500 USD per month depending on furnishing. Most these jobs are not filled by residents of these communities. These residents are usually laborers or fishermen that earns about $8 per day while feeding big families

  • You shouldn’t be going around with minor girls, it’s really weird. In the USA you’d be in jail. Just saying. I wouldn’t be hanging with little kids asking all these intrusive questions.

    • Thank you for your concern as I have consulted local government and law enforcement and had their blessings. As I don’t know their age, I do agree they are young. My line of questions were basic and not intrusive at all, but I understand what is intrusive is subjective. With the awareness of law enforcement and local community members, I DO mentor ans sponsor a few kids in my surrounding neighborhood and I would have never had the chance without 1st having a conversation. I speak with young and old (as you can see from my content); one in which is a senior citizen who I was able to help go home and passed on in peace at home.

I understand your concern and it’s valid. At the same time, I am glad I live here now and not there, where an innocent conversation (regardless of age) can be misconstrued as “inappropriate”.

    • @@woutergijs5246 no . But to follow all around. You would have parents kicking your butt.

    • @@qadventures listen I love you and your videos. I was only stating that it’s a touchy subject. And yes I pm also leaving the USA for Thailand in a few years. This country sucks anymore. ;).

  • Those people in the condos go out and hang their laundry on their balcony. They can see that below them. I wonder how many of them complain? “There but for the grace of God……”

  • These kids should look at the big house and take that as a motivation to be good at school.

“One day i will life up there”

Be proud of yourself and never complain about your current situation. Its always up to you so take a bag, some neighbours and remove the trash. Your community would look so much nicer without all the trash

    • I said in the very beginning of my video the area I am in. You previously asked the name of condo/hotel which I did not investigate

    • @@YuriUKthis is getting weird. This is not the subject. You can pinpoint it on google within 50-100 meters. The exact condo building is not relevant. Btw… you did not ask what name the house has where those people live.

  • Hey Derek, yeah, that was me that just messaged You on messenger. I was venting.

I only have FaceBook to have Messenger only. You will never see posts on FB from me. If someone posts to my FB, I will delete it. I have already deleted two that were posted.

  • Do not judge these people!! They are doing the best they can…..this is their life….God bless the Philippines 🇵🇭!!!

  • For those interested: there are some very interesting scripts, very well documented. ( e.g. by Peace Corps) About the background of the ( greater)-Cebu inhabitants. Anthropology, sociology, economy…

  • Nice vlog Derek. We might meet again maybe on Mactan. Accidentally I was taken this morning on a live vlog at Grand Mall. And a visit to Opon Plaza & The Virgen de la Regia Shrine. That is very nearby where freedom fighter LapuLapu beat the shit out of that invader Maghellan…
