  • Hmmmโ€ฆnot sure what you are getting into without more information but, at the very least, those birds need a bigger cage!

    • He looks to be in a terrible condition with his leg.. tough man to have suffered with that for a year. He has the typical English attitude of Don’t complain just get on with it. But in that situation he is in, he clearly needs URGENT medical treatment..

  • So very sad story to hear about this tragic life for the gentleman before young happy life than looking for happiness end up broke GBU To The British gentleman and the Q Adventures โค

    • Agreed. It’s sad to see someone in such dia circumstances! He’s got the typical English “stiff upper lip”/Don’t complain attitude and to “just get on with it best you can”.. But to have a bad break like that & for a year is terrible.. i hope he gets the medical help he needs, given he’s 76, that’s really sad & dangerous for him.. โœ๏ธ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

    • โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹@@qadventuresGood man trying to help him out! Can’t imagine him being stuck in that position for a year with no treatment! Especially not knowing what caused the break to be that bad in first place! I hope he can get the funds raised so he can get the operation he needs and treatment..
God Bless you for trying to help him. That’s the English “stiff upper lip” as they say never complain just get on with it and make the best of the situation. He’s obviously a mentally tough man.. โœ๏ธ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

  • I guess people move cuz no funds and women. Then all falls apart re health. Same in usa. Only usa hes totally homeless

  • In uk he’d at least get medical . Where would he live. No money. Can’t pay 2 homes. Looses pi home. Life sucks eh

  • Good man trying to help him out! Can’t imagine him being stuck in that position for a year with no treatment! Especially not knowing what caused the break to be that bad in first place! I hope he can get the funds raised so he can get the operation he needs and treatment..

  • His left leg looks like it needs attention too. From the colour of it, I hope he doesn’t have a dvt. Hope you get sorted Ian.

  • Sad that he has allowed a Medical situation to incapacitate him to just lying in bed as his quality of life must be terrible and bless the Heart of his Filipino wife Melanie who I’m not sure the UK government will cover her going as they would likely cover him and assess it against his passport. His $500k ($8896 usd) deposit is probably 1/2 of what he needs not counting the prostrate surgery. He definitely should return as life will continue to deteriorate, as he sounds like another Ken as we only hope it isn’t too late for him. I only hope the Q crew can help and outreach to those in UK and Ireland embassies and social services in assisting him. Derek & Ai now getting the reputation as Brit expat Savior… And amazed he can live on $711 a month ($40k peso) with no backup plan.. You know I’ll chip in just like i did for Ken

  • Whats going on here? How does one leg shrink 4″ without a major reconstructive surgery? And no follow up?

    • I don’t have an explanation as I have zero medical background. All I know is what I see and what I see is this man needs medical attention

  • I dont take this story at face value. Derrek needs to make sense of this b4 allowing his subscribers to send money.

Come on Derek, do your do-diligence

  • Derrick, are you saying that neither his wife or daughters could speak coherently about whats going on?

Are you good with the facts to allow your subscribers to just send money?

You need to do better. You need to clean up YOUR act son.

    • What do you mean? Who better to speak on his situation than himself? His wife and stepdaughters are not native English speakers

    • @@qadventures Derrick, he was blown out. Doesn’t your wife speak the local language. He wasn’t making sense.

    • Derek does not need to do anything. Who are you to command him and call him โ€œ sonโ€ ? Have you ever met him ? ( I did btw)

    • Westerners are so ignorant about The Philippines. It is a poor country, simple fact. When you reach out to the local community, you see the dire situation of many people. Diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure, heart disease, โ€ฆ oh no, you do not see them at Ayala Mall. But when you know someone at the Hippodrome next door, you see the sick and elderly living with their family as good as possible.

    • โ€‹@woutergijs5246 well….actually he does. He has taken a public position representing a need to make donations to someone. It does require do diligence.

I believe Derrick is legitimate but he must do better if he is going to succeed.

I’m guessing you didn’t see his video of that last crazy guy he was trying to help. How did that work out? Any do diligence there before he published the video?

  • Derek, your a good man. I don’t know how to say this nicely, remember as we age we start to lose it… My grandfather became like that near the end, hard to have a conversation with him, my father at 78 is doing the same thing. Be diligent but be patient too. I donated under my same user name here which is also my email, but I didn’t see anywhere to put “Ian” in while paying via your paypal link, hope you see my donation and direct it to help Ian out. Thanks

  • Even if the money was raised I think he would be better off going to the uk. I imagine theyโ€™ll put him in rehab after surgery or it could be worse. I imagine he would need a medical clearance to fly. Iโ€™ve started to believe that foreigners shouldnโ€™t be a burden on resources and always have a plan of care. Exactly why I havenโ€™t moved there yet. Iโ€™m willing to help but comments I see are mixed.

  • You can take him to the Lapu2 provincial hospital and he can get this operation. Of course you know that so youโ€™re only interested in making money off this broken overstayer. Shame on you bro!

    • Helping people is a good thing, but embarrassing an expat is not right. I wish all the best AI. Watch Your Video.. You will understand how you make this expat look on YouTube. I can not support that.

    • @abc4500- how am I embarrassing him? With something I said? Or his attire? I’ve asked if he wanted to dress, but it was his choice to carry on the way he was. I’ve even asked permission before pointing the camera at his legs. He l8ves in that very space due to his injury and it was REALLY hot. I apologize if I am missing your specific point

  • A Very sad and dire situation indeed.
I can understand why he would prefer to go to the Uk to have the operation done, as it would be free. I wish him luck either way, hopefully many people choose to help out, no matter how much they can afford, every little bit will help for sure.๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ

  • Seems some viewers cannot stand reality. Never visited someone in a retirement home? Or not even visited their own parents or grandparentsโ€ฆ.?

  • Showing an elderly citizen with visual medical issues, surviving on a hospital bed outside the porch is upsetting some people. And than blaming Derek ???

  • Bell rang at the last minuteโ€ฆ Ian spells in the NATO alphabet. Electrical engineer going to the Gulf states in his forties. Sounds like he has been in the service.
    Double identity Irish and British.

    • There are still many unclear factors as it comes down to cost. He DOES have a desire to be treated in England, but he has ZERO support there. Bring his wife as a “caregiver” will be a long visa application process. So even though he desires to be treated in the UK, he will choose to be treated in the Philippines because of the family factor

  • Why would he have to spend time in the UK? Would they not attend to him quickly? I would think he could just hop in a wheelchair right after and fly back. If so, that would be a cheaper option and they can checkout his prostrate to maybe give him another option.

    • I would imagine post op recovery time. Broken femur for 1 yr, I don’t have medical background but would imagine complexity in the procedures

    • @@andyh5822 His Irish passport is good. That gets him close and once there he should be able to get an emergency passport to UK. Anyway, just a thought.

  • @ Derek: I will be at Lapu Lapu in November and staying around there. Near Deca Homes 1. Can you tell me which barangay Ian stays please?

  • Youtube question: the word โ€œ to die โ€œ seems to have been erased or blurred? Is this by reason ?

  • I don’t mean to be cold hearted. It’s better to help younger people with hope. Ian has loved a full life. He made a choice to go Phillipines and not keep ties to the UK. Great to all those who want to help, I ain’t got money for him

    • I, 100%, appreciate your standpoint and the young generation is my focus. However, no matter what age, human suffering is human suffering. If I could, I would.

  • This is why its so hard to get sick in ph without health insurance and not having a house of your own its just sad . 40k pension a month should be enough to live a simple life . I hope you get the help you needed

    • I don’t know Ian’s specific situation, but most expats I observe doesn’t want to have that sense of permanence and the fear of being taken advantaged of. In the Philippines, foreigners cannot own land. So in order to buy land to build a home on requires them to purchase that land under their partner’s name and there are endless horror stories behind that.

In Ian’s case, if buying a home is over $100k, but renting one is a little over $100 per month, I think I would prefer to rent also

  • man atleast if you gonna go to asia and live there secure yourself first, that is not a rich country but euro or dollar money is a lot there get a house get a business or something if you manage to do that thet 40k pension is okay if you got old, secure yourself first with the basic necessities and live of your pensions that 40k is enough for retirement live a normal life,, but yeah getting old and sick suck it will happen to everyone

  • Derek make a check up of reasonably good medical facities and easy visa for medical treatment in Delhi(India) u make a search of hospitals in the NCR region(national capital region included Gurugram, Noida on outskirt of delhi check one famous orthopedic hospital Gangaram Hospital ,hospitalisation cost should be around 5-6000 dollars for surgery and traction treatment. Some of the hospitals have accomodation arrangements for accompanying caregiver and their food mess.moreover english is spoken and understood there.

  • You should have at least covered his lower half, showing his adult diaper is just wrong, we should respect our elders, he can return to the UK and have his operation for free by qualified doctors

  • Great video ! He is in a lot better situation then thousands of foreign ppl. So many are going to Asia and south america with no insurance or a too small one. This man at least have a home, a pension and his family. He is in very good mood and a good sence of humor. Hope he can get his foot fixed so he can go back to the life he wants..play pool with friends ! Thank you Derek and Ai ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฅฐ

  • One tough smart cookie and his wife is comenadable. 20 grand to fix his broken leg? Is he still eligible for NHS treatment in the UK ? Another option might be thailand.

  • I have some questions regarding to his situation…

    a) Is he in pain because of the broken bone?
    b) He can not walk because of the difference in length?
    c) Would the operation be covered in the UK by an Insurance?

It would be good to have more details because its a big difference if he needs the operation or just a special shoe. After the operation it needs a lot of time until the bones are connected again, the muscles get back to former glory and he learn to walk again.

I am happy for him that his wife stand by his side and take care of him.

  • 6000 pesos per month for a less than desirable place in the Philippines isn’t “kind” of the landlords. 3000 pesos for electricity when he only uses a fan and a light bulb at night? It seems to me that those so-called landlords are making him pay for everyone’s electricity usage. They are scammers and shameless. From the looks of it, it is a pretty unlivable place: cheap tarp for windows, tin roof, and laundry hanging from the ceiling (indicating no space). I’ve asked other filipinos about the place this guy is living in and they said it should be free to live in such a dump

  • Again? I told you about transparency. Searching out homeless and sick expats? Skimming Donos Q, tsk tsk tsk

  • 40k peso a month is not so much in phil when majority of its people living off 2-3 dollars a day …. hahaha

  • Hi Derek
Iโ€™ve followed you for a long time and Iโ€™ve read a lot of the comments in this thread. Some one as asked you for help and you have done all you can with your resources and they just complain. I believe what you have done is great and thank you for trying. My prayers for Ian.
