  • We do have bad areas in some countries in Europe as well…not as much as in Asia . So sad to see how ppl can live ๐Ÿ˜ฅ Life is really not fair !

  • Bra, I would counsel you to have a little more respect and sensitivity for that extreme level of poverty. Those folks were born into that and they are doing the best they can. Did that girl with the baby look like she was excited to talk to you? And you kinda just stuck your head in her home. You like it if strangers do that to your house? That’s her space. It’s all she has. Maybe learn to read people a little…Geez. Maybe show up with some rice or other food. Did those kids look like they were well fed? Do you think they like living like that? How about you bend over and pick up some trash, get a little exercise. Please try to have a little respect. You’re not in the PH because you were a monster success somewhere else, right? Humility, empathy and sensitivity are good qualities.

  • The girls you have come across seem very young to have babies and then to raise children in such difficult conditions must be very challenging.

  • Amazing how I can leave my high rise here in IT Park and within 5 minutes be among the workers that built my place. Cebu is beautiful but I wish the areas you walked through would be cleaned up and given better water and sanitation facilities.

  • Cebu City Birthrate 2.8, Mandaue City 2.5, Lapu-Lapu 4 births per woman. Thailand the slowest growing economy in ASEAN will have its current 70 million declining and aging population shrink to a mere 33 million by 2050. An Estimated 60-80% of Thai women engage as Prostitutis.

  • Ppl with so much less seem too always make do…my heart goes out to these amazing folks cuz i can relate to this story oh so well coming from a sharecropping family raised in the south…may Godbless the philippines ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ

    • @@qadventures Despite extreme poverty, the Filipino is the happiest people in the world. Some of us Americans are spoiled and take things for granted

  • Derek these single moms really need your attention with some self employment scheme or earning to keep their dignity.

  • what are you crapping on about with the children, if your doing them NO harm there is NO problem speaking with them and their have fun and so are you so no problem

  • The kids are so cute – sad, the community is so cooped up with no spaces. I wish some companies would donate some cargo containers for this whole community, so everyone can live better.

  • Yes, it’s unfortunate that a lot of the people live like that. Therefore, I’m very thankful for what I have. Thanks Derek for the video ๐Ÿ‘.

  • I was surprised you said to the young girl “your so light skinned”. Its not a good line to use in the states nor should you say it to a filipina. Also with me living in the Philippines to call someones place sketchy is kind of rude. This is how these people love its their life. Sometimes you should think before you say something. You have been saying things forst and then apologizing later.

  • There are many vloggers that walk through the slums on their own, and are okay and survive, I have seen many. I am surprised this is your first time to be honest, and shocked that you didn’t think the poor people live like that. Buy the kids that are following you an ice cream at least then they will be happy! Its like every slum, full of friendly poor people and many children!

    • I think you are new to my channel and welcome. I think my delivery was off. This specific neighborhood is known for drug use and violence

    • I agree with you on this. I like their videos but the end where talking down the womans home right in front of her is very disrespectful and you could tell it was affecting her. She was nice enough to share with them her world so at least be compassionate for her situation is my thought. It is heartbreaking seeing so many people that society has forgotten. Here in America we are so spoiled most people cannot even imagine this type of living conditions.

  • I see how people complained here for just nothing about government and see how the people struggle in the Philippines with poverty really breaks me down..

    • @@qadventures yes my friend Seychellois are difficult people because we got things easily here and they do not know what is mean by extreme poverty. Here a member of parliament said in the chamber a person in his contingency call him and said to him that the eye clinic called her to come to pick up her classes but she have no money to pay for the ferry so if he can pay his expenses for her to go and collect her glasses. Remember the glass she got was free from the government.

  • So Q, did you go in to the slums just to talk and interview families? Itโ€™s a sincere question bc the very young Mom with the baby boy had a look of โ€œhopeโ€ in her eyes and if i am going to make a guess, itโ€™s that she was hoping you could offer some sort of help. Like anything for her living situation. What was your impression bc i know you have helped people before. Great video btw and I am looking forward to visiting myself and even retiring there and doing what i can to help one family at a time.

    • You are correct. I look for opportunities to hand up to people. But these decisions are not made spontaneously. I observe to feel out whether they would have the motivation and/or ability to potentially be independent at some point. The worst thing I can do is hand out to people, they grow a reliance, and if I can’t afford it anymore, they will be devastated

    • @@qadventures I love that response Q! Could not agree more and am so inspired by your process and all that you do! I know one day we will meet and it would be amazing to share in that journey even from behind the scenes on the front line. Stay blessed!

  • I’m curious on what exactly is your objective by strolling through the slums while recording…those people did not give you any consent to be filmed. They are not in public places; they are calmly going about their days within the privacy of their village. They are people, not animals in a zoo on display for people’s entertainment. This is simply exploitation & should be stopped.

    • I encourage you to watch my other videos to understand that context and purpose. The very 1st video I made in my video library, I stated my intent

  • Do you even watch any other YouTube channels that venture into these neighborhoods. Iโ€™m surprised as someone thatโ€™s trying to go into philanthropy this is your first time in the slums

  • I live in a subdiv in San Juan Batangas and the people turned it into a slum/farm. I am fed up and moving. we can’t even sell our house.

  • Every country in the world!!!!! Has its good and bad!!!!!! They may not be rich financially!!!! But there happier than westerners!!!!!!! Judging a book by it cover!!!!!!!

  • I found this video disturbing that you walked around and continually pointed out to people their poor living conditions and circumstances You seem to be walking around there like that wow look me, I am dressed nicely, I assume you are clean and refreshed and you just seem to be walking around like you want these underprivilged people to be in awe of you or something Seems like you are exploiting their plight for your you tube channel And if I may ask what is it that you look to gain out of this, some views and some little income from you tube I found this very disturbing how you conducted this video and by the way your girlfriend was not walking around laughing at the people and their horrible conditions, quite frankly she seemed somewhat uncomfortable with the whole adventure I am really sad and disappointed how you conducted your self in this video Constantly oh look at this , oh look at that, quite frankly if you were not bring any help to these people, you had no business going there

  • you are think very invasive of these people Don’t you think of these shame you are on them Oh big man, you have seen smoke houses bigger than that, I am sure that made her feel good You should really be ashamed of yourself. You think she is proud and you made her day by reminding her of her living conditions

  • Then when you post the thumbnail you use a big picture of the young girl with the big boobs. Yea , that will get everyone’s attention. This is exploitation at its best. You try to come off like this nice guy who is so concerned about these people but you basically are no different than most vloggers over there, simply exploiting the hardships of the people there All you have to do is look at your thumbnail on this video You want to make sure everyone sees that Stop it with the I am so righteous act

  • Poverty is in every country, but one big difference is the lack of substance abuse, violent criminals, and hate that exist in poor places in Western countries is baffling. There are alcoholics (tanduay) here, but nothing compared to the substance abusers of the West. I am not sure how helpful your video is to the poor people, but hopefully you are thinking how to help. I live in a squatter barangay, always thinking how I could help solve the poverty, but it is so overwhelming and acceptable that I doubt a foreigner can help or make a noticeable change.

    • I am in the same situation, each person you help to a limit changes the community in my Opinion. But it got so overwhelming for me because I tried to save them all. I couldn’t do it. sometimes I see this where I live it breaks my heart. some times to tears

    • Shabu are in the squatter villages. You have to have thick skin. Neighborhoods here are mixed. Right outside or over the wall of your subdivision are squatters.

  • am I mistaken or did they bring another Marcos back in- I will bet he is not living in extreme poverty- what is being done to provide for the people and infrastructure- beautiful people but change is needed to provide basic necessities- (just an observation) .

  • Man that’s sad , ive sent gifts to schools there and baliykbian to people i knew that were poor but none were that poor, my dude peel her a 500 note

  • I was just looking at another channel and they brought it to the attention of the viewers about Republic Act (RA) 1995, also known as the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act of 2009, is a law in the Philippines that prohibits the following actions: 1) Taking photos or videos of a person or group of people performing a sexual act or similar activity without their consent 2) Capturing an image of a person’s private area, such as genitals, buttocks, or FEMALE BREAST, without their consent 3) Copying, reproducing, or making public materials of a person or group of people without their consent. Sounds like something you surely violated and should take notice to. I am sure you have no permission to show a picture of a younger girl who surely looks underage, photos of her breast on some you tube video for the world to see Obviously from the video you had no permission to invade these people’s privacy like you did and act like you are so much better off than they are portraying how much better life has been to you and reminding them how unfair life has been to them. Shame on you Very disturbing your portrayal of this video for your self serving purpose because it was of no benefit at to these innocent people

  • I was there last december. Wasn’t surprised, like lots of places around the world. People are very nice, they’re more optimistic than Europeans or Americans.

  • How shameful and disgusting living conditions , over population and Philippine govt incompetency ๐Ÿ˜ข๐Ÿ˜Š very sad

  • good job with the camera angle…. It really helps the flow of the video presentation and visual feel as an audience member..
You have a great attitude and connection with your community…

  • I saw this place driving into Cebu from Consolacion when I was there in 2017. I wanted to explore this place but everyone said it wasn’t safe for me. I do like your videos. Thanks. Oh I love your wife or girlfriend too. She is always so good to everyone and never gets jealous of you talking to anyone and everyone and she is just a good soul. Does she have the Filipina temper ever? ๐Ÿ˜€

  • Hello mate, Just joined your channel coz I like Philippines and Filipinos friendly attitude and vibe. Very nice vlog and hats off to these less fortunate people who are strong to survive and cheerful in even harsh conditions. ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญโค๏ธ

  • Derek my brother! I don’t know how you do it but I know why you do it and I admire you for doing it. Makes me want to do more and i will upon my next visit. Heartfelt!
