  • Fantastic interview. I can’t wait for part two with Gerico. it’s incredible to take being bullied and decide to turn it into a career to find out why people act like that. The locals I assume right out side of their neighborhood judge and bully them I imagine solely on assumptions without taking any time to even talk or get to know them. You took us into their neighborhood and shared how friendly and normal they are. I will also say to grow up in those cramped surroundings with so many people in such a small place and get an academic scholarship is incredible and LJ must be one smart determined young lady.

    • Honestly, I have never met a psychologist or psychiatrist who was not not bullied in some form growing up or didn’t go through a traumatic event in their life. I have met many of them through a clubhouse of the m.lly disabled I used to work at. They all had stories to tell about their past. My own ex, a psychologist, went to a religious “private school” and she was bullied there, which was a surprise to me. It was the “my father owns a pharmaceutical company and yours is simply an executive of a food processing plant” type of bullying, but somehow it affected her all her life. She was never “in the group” and was treated horribly by her classmates.

  • LJ is quite an incredible young lady she has such a good attitude she is inspiring me to let me know that anybody can do what they want to do it they put their mind to she will do well in life God bless her

    • She is a sweet smart but naive girl with a good attitude. She most likely will not achieve what she wants. There is very little demand for sport psychologists in the world, let alone the Philippines. Every person on the planet should examine his or her life and ask, how will I get from here to there? Some do make it on blind faith, but not most.

  • Derek u are such a good person with a good heart opening ur house to ppl and helping ppl. U think she will want to date and maybe get married soon ?

    • @Q Adventures I think that’s why many people respect you. Because it doesn’t occur to you to ask things like that and instead you stick to trying to help people out. Every other vlogger is asking those questions.

    • I have them the way they are so other community kids can come use it for school purposes. I will be setting up a dedicated club house for that shortly

    • @assanchez7683 i don’t think in her particular situation for now a laptop would be as good as his offer to use his equipment. Even if she had a laptop she wouldn’t have anywhere to work or internet or printers etc.

    • My voluntary donation links are listed in the video description section. However, if you wish to conduct a private donation without PayPal fees, feel free to reach out to me via any of my contact method listed within my page to skip the hefty processing fees from PayPal and BuyMeACoffee

  • there called crabs they dont want you to succeed and thats why do that to them. i would love to come to the Philippines and marry a beautiful women like LJ she smart and trying to make a better life for herself .dont let people discourage you keep up the good work LJ.

  • Bless you brother, you’ve made LJ one very happy young woman😀…… if you keep this up you’re gonna need a bigger house😂

    • Oh no….🤣😂 my home is my sanctuary and it’s too crowded for my liking now. But I am working on getting dedicated space for these students to have electronic, internet, and technology to further their studies

    • @Q Adventures The oestrogen dominance within your home can only be countered by the building of a dedicated man cave that you make off limits to all females. You run the serious risk of testosterone depletion so I suggest you furnish it with a 75″ TV to watch MMA fights and a bar heavily stocked with liquor, cigars and snacks. I see no other options that’ll save your ass.🙏

  • I never seen that coming, poor bulling the very poor. How poor can you get. When I say poor, someone who finds life with the ability not able to make money to live on. Jobs paying 1200 paso a week or even a day. Even that’s poor status. Even college graduates looking at the same pay, how many starts making 22000 oasis a week? That’s poor people here with the same pay.

    • Yeah. She has a long journey ahead of her. At some point, she will need to do her internship, which is working for free for how ever long. But her point is, she is working to break the cycle and shove it in the faces of the bullies

    • @eddydavis9548 I would bet those who bullied her where not from her direct neighborhood on the water but probably a neighborhood out on the main road.

    • It will not take long for male subscribers come and brining her expensive gifts like a smartphone with one phone number already saved… oh.. wait.. 😛
But she is a smart young lady and I think will keep her goals priority no. 1

    • These are still just kids really . But there both so impressive they have very little but both are studying for a better future a inspiration for the lazy entitled youth of the west that includes my own son 😂

  • I encourage people visiting the Philippines to bring unused computers to the Philippines to donate to students. Just this will make a difference in their lives

    • 100% agreed. I have subscribers who come visit me and bring tools, clothing and electronics that they don’t have use for anymore to donate and I disburse them to the local filipino community

    • @qadventures  It was in middle school when kids were the worst. Once we got to high school, people chilled out. I think kids are trying to find their identities at that age and want to be cool. I think things have gotten a bit better in the West, but it seems it’s still bad in the Philippines.

Anyway, this is one of the best channels on youtube right now. The best amongst the Philippines vlogspere. Most of the others just seem to be about meeting women, and that’s it. This channel has a lot of substance.

  • Bruh. Fantastic follow-up. I would have liked to hear a lil bit of Jericoh’s story/journey as well but I get it 😎LJ is angelic. Eighteen minutes wasn’t long enough God Bless all your good deeds 🙏

  • Sounds like the caste system mindset in India. You know, how one set looks down on a different group. Those 2 will do just fine. Very well grounded. Good interview, Derek.

    • @Q Adventures absolutely. That’s what I mean. They will be fine. They’re both smart and very personable. The large majority of Philippine people seem really laid back. I’ll be visiting soon myself.

    • nothing like it at all. In the caste system, they are taught by their parents they belong that way. It is that Hindu mindset of “You were reincarnated into this body because you need to learn more for the next life.” I don’t see that in the Philippines at all. I do see people looking down at others but I have never seen a family tell their kid that they must submit to such a system. Instead I see them encouraging their kids to rise above where they came from. LJ’s parents should have done better with her early on to explain the world can be ugly but God is not and wants good things for her.

    • She hasn’t expressed a desire to vlog (like Gel). And I don’t share contact info of my guests as you understand for privacy reasons

    • If you really want to help her, you should encourage her to learn how to generate her own income via her own platform instead of having her gain views on your channel.

    • @David Wille You are right sir!
I AM choosing to be an ass.
And though the sentiment behind the statement to which I’m referring to is heart felt and I’m sure appreciated, my statement still stands.

  • Derek your effort to help these young people are commendable. Their ability to stay focused under difficult living conditions and being bullied deserve praise also. The notion that all Filipinas are only looking for a foreigner to rescue them needs to be dispelled with more vids like this.🏝️🇵🇭

    • Well said. Although never asked, but she has the intelligence to help herself and her community. I never got sign that she is looking for a bailout through marriage to a foreigner

    • @Q AdventuresI get the impression she is trying to use her brains to bail herself out and to lift her family up with her, I gather Jerico is doing the same. Being born poor is only your starting point in life not your fate.
I have seen what my father in-law achieved, he was orphaned the second time at age 13, as his adopted parents died, and yet he put all 4 of his children through university, 2 of them with Australian universities.

    • Don’t feel sorry, William…. they use it as fuel to drive their success. We know no heaven without acknowledging the existence of hell.

  • These 2 seem like wonderful people. We were poor when I was a kid but my best friends family was like 9 kids dad only working farming for poverty level wages poor . They lived about 1/4 mile from us and my parents didn’t want me going there to play but every chance I got to sneak over I was there with them because they were a happy family mine wasn’t alcoholic dad and all that . Like I said we were poor but my family looked down on them because I guess so they could feel better about themselves from my point of view then and now there my other family I still refer to my 9 other brothers and sisters and my other mom and dad not by blood but by love

    • @qadventures tell those 2 kids they can do anything the bullys are the one with the problem not them being poor isn’t a character defect if anything a character builder

  • I hope LJ the goddess of the fishing village, and Jericho both are able to finish up school and find the success they want and deserve. If her and jericho make it in there fields that there talking about, it would be a big help to them and there families.

    • Yes… and I intend to be involved along the way as much or as little as they allow me to. For now, I am still in the “discovery” phase and don’t want to jump the gun and over promise on situations I am still ignorant to

  • I think what LJ said is funny (Not haha funny), they bully them because they go out and catch seafood, and those bullying them go to the market to buy that very seafood. Without those “low class” hard working fishermen, what are those “upper class” going to do when there’s no seafood for them to buy? The way I look at bullies is, they are trying to put others down because they are miserable and worthless in their own lives, and they want to feel like someone else has it worse off than they do. Ignore bullies and let them see they can’t get to you and they will move on to someone else.
I wish this lady and gentleman (Although he didn’t talk much)well in their studies.

James 4:11-12: Do not speak evil against one another, brothers. The one who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks evil against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. There is only one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor?

    • @ejtaylor73 it reminds me of the truck driver saga here in the states. It’s all fun and games until they stop driving and nobody can even wipe their arse. Only then did some realize exactly how important those truck drivers were to their daily lives.

  • They are confident and so polite…shows a great upbringing. They both will be very successful in whatever they do.

  • bro these dudes asking for this girls info kinda wierd cant you guys just go to the country and find a girl yourselves.

  • As someone who grew up poor in a family of 6 kids, I fully understand as the bullying is something that many kids in that situation has to deal with. Thankfully, I chose the military, which got me out of that and showed me the world and showed me that even in my situation growing up, these kids have dealt with worse and have overcome it. May their future paths be paved with golden opportunities. Thank you Derek for all of what you do, and hopefully i get to visit you when i get in country. Keep up the great work.

  • It seems the “upper class” always looks down in honest hard working people. But then something happens and their pantry isn’t full anymore, yet still act above the farmer’s and fishermen they depend on. Hard work makes a person. Not a nugget of gold. Catch a fish and eat for the day. Carry a shiny Rick in your pocket and you go to sleep hungry. I’ve found the “poor” people do more for their neighbors and charity than any wealthy type. So hold your heads up high and take that bullying as a badge of honor! God bless.

  • Who bully LJ I’m gonna go be her bodyguard 😁😁be safe out there LJ stay bless and have a happy life😁😁

  • My fiancé niece who is the same name LJ (Liv Jewel) had a classmate who wasn’t able to go to school for several years and thus was 6 years older than the other classmates. I decided to sponsor that classmate for lunch, transportation and school supplies. I had to stop because this classmate started to bully my fiancé niece. This lasted quite a while because she was to ashamed to tell me.

  • Some of the Philippines way of up bringing reminds me of what was so practical here in the usa. We’ve lost ourselves in this modern world.kodos to these young folks for being different than most. God bless thank u for ur channel

  • LJ is indeed so pretty 😍 ❤ I hope someday she will be successful and Jericho too. God bless them 🙏 🙌 and you too Derek 🤗

  • Beautiful girl!
You can feel the energy from her brain working at every point in this conversation.
She seems extremely level headed aswell.
All the best to you all. Thanks for sharing.

  • She seems like a very smart and capable girl. Hopefully she will be able to get educated and get a good job she can get a more stable place. Thanks for the tour of her neighborhood!

  • great interview. It is good she has opened her eyes to whom bullies are. They are not elite, they are sad. That said, she is most likely pursuing the wrong vocation in the Philippines. Unless she is planning to be paid by the state, I doubt she could make enough to eat in private business. I would love to sit down with young Filipinos who are entering college and ask them what their goals are and how they think they will accomplish them. Going to college might be a goal but it is a short term goal. What they plan to do with that impacts the rest of their lives. Most don’t think that far. If I was a Filipino, I would strive to become excellent in English or Korean. Both would be better. Then I would study why businesses succeed and why they fail. This girl is a smart girl but most likely won’t succeed in what she wants to do, at least in the Philippines.

    • @puppyupper4565 thank you for that. You just got me motivated in starting a conversation with college graduates and their career path. My eyes and ears will be open more so than ever.

      You may, perhaps, be right.

    • @Q Adventures I truly wish you every blessing as you move forward. I absolutely love your heart in these videos. It is super cool of your background. Chinese parents but born in Vietnam yet moved to the states. I take it you are fluent in Chinese, Vietnamese and obviously English. Do you know Bisaya or Tagalog? I tried to learn Vietnamese. I think it must be the hardest language in the world for an American.

    • @puppyupper4565 vietnamese is difficult with the pronunciation. I gave a lot of it back as I was sent to Chinese school to study mandarin as a child. Practice Cantonese at home. English was my 4th language and picked up some Spanish while living in rosarito, baja. And linguistics is not my thing. Bisaya and tagalog is out of the question. My brain won’t allow it

    • @Q Adventures cool cool. Languages are definitely not my thing. I am learning Bisaya and it is similar to learning Spanish but Spanish is easy compared to Bisaya. Vietnamese was a nightmare. I could not hear the difference in many of the words. Tagalog sounds so monotonous to me that I don’t even like hearing it. Bisaya is alive. It has so much rhythm to it. There is a lot my brain doesn’t allow anymore. You are a character. God bless you.

  • Wow LJ is so lovely if only I was alot younger…lol. ..both.wonderful and smart people. Glad you are helping them by giving them.access to help with their education.

  • I wonder if she knows how pretty she really is. I have a feeling that her social status will change very quickly.
Every expat within a 3 island radius will be courting her soon 😂

    • I sense she is self aware and I doubt this video will make any difference in her romantic endeavors as she lives in the center of tourist town and her very university is located in expat heavy community. She’s not oblivious to expats

    • Thank you…. this country is so beautiful and welcoming. In whatever small way, it’s right to give back and not just consume

  • Excellent video’s and how wonderful these two delightful intelligent people are getting help to further their education by the your friendship and use of your computer’s. I hope you can follow their journey through school and beyond.

  • I couldnt watch past the 3rd question. He asked 3questions and she didnt answer one of them, just answered with some random comment that didnt make sense to me🤷🏻‍♂️

  • LJ is such a smart, intelligent and beautiful young lady. She doesn’t look like she lives in their neighborhood but she does.

  • LJ if you are reading the comments, with your looks and level of English, you can easily earn over 100k a month on various platforms. Dont ever get discouraged and focus on a better future.

    • @christinemae3631 what platforms would they be exactly? In your previous post you were offering her 50 to 100K to start her own channel on YouTube. If you think you are easily going to earn 100K a month on any platform on your own you are sadly mistaken my friend.

    • @christinemae3631 thats a very generous offer. Way overpriced though you could do it for a few hundred.

    • I spoke with LJ today about your offer. She will like to entertain your offer. you are welcome to reach out to me via any of my contact info as a mediator. She is not comfortable in releasing her personal information at this point until she knows who you are and the details of your offer

  • i think lj stands for little jewel she is adorable derek you crack me up you like mma but your gf can kick your bootay haha

  • Hi Derek, I think LJ is smart but I do question getting a psychology degree, is their a market for this degree in that country, my ex daughter-in-law has a Psychology Major with a Masters and it never took her anywhere here in the states, now my son, her ex got his Computer science degree and he is 6 figures here in the states, my son calls them throw away degree’s my oldest son is also involved with computer architecture but he is working in Singapore now and he always made more than his brother. This is my advice to people living over sea’s, don’t get throw away degree’s some degree’s can get you into the states under our visa laws that allow for highly educated people

  • Neighborhood bullies are real. My sister’s next door neighbor’s are horrible. They think they are a higher social caste. They built their house nicer a couple years ago, added second story. Very stuck-up, think they are better than others. They start bad gossip about our family. Recently, a new road was paved and it caused sister’s house to flood badly in moderate rain. So my wife and I rebuilt it. We gave roof away to more poor. We raised up all walls to make a second story. Lot is small, we poured enough concrete to raise ground level above street. We spent $7,000 and built a badass 2 story in 5 weeks. The ugly neighbor kept insulting progress, saying “Watch them run out of money” to neighbors, behind our backs. I admit, that pissed me off and probably caused me to spend a couple extra thousand, lol. They demanded we build a wall between houses – fuckin A right, built 15foot tall block wall and made our side smoothed with stucco. Just that wall was 30,000 peso in material alone, hahaha – they didn’t expect that. They have to look at raw block on their side – they cannot touch the wall to change it. We put tile in house, refrigerator, gas stove, soft, stateside style couch & chairs, 50″ TV wall mounted, beds, frames, dressers. Bullying has stopped last few weeks. Their house is not as nice or as well furnished & no tile floors. All people in Neighborhood ask to tour house and give great compliments. It feels good and gives our sister great self esteem. She can walk to sari-sari or Magic Star with head held high – FTW!

    • @Q Adventures – Sister in law who we built house for lived with us in Angeles City for 4 years and took care of all household chores (wife made me let go the cute 20 year old one I had, hehehe). Before we left for US, sent her to Lorraine Tech to learn seamstress & bought her nice machine. We left, she went back home & took care of both parents next few years – I promised her we would always take care of her the rest of her life. That’s why went so crazy building her the house of her dreams. She had never been in a house that nice, let alone lived in one & own it. Changing lives is power. You feel just as good as the ones you help, win-win. Keep up the good work. Try to learn Tagalog at least, makes a huge difference in your experience. I became fluent in speaking, reading & writing. Filipinos look at you with a different kind respect, other than being a foreigner – and they feel more at ease.

  • People who bully are jealous and weak ! They think they bring themselves up by trying to bring others down…Its so stupid and ignorant because they are doing the opposite of what they should do ! Congratulations LJ for being strong and smart !!!

  • I love the way LJ repeats the word ‘kanang’ amidst her sentences. I looove the Phillipino accent❤

    Thanks for the video..

  • @Q Adventures. Derek am just watching your vlogs here now man and it’s so cool to watch such a beautiful young lady tell her story and speak so clearly in english is definitely worth waiting for and watching aswell.
I gotta hand it to you bro your kindness deserves a medal of honour for the way you help out people you have become friends with. I applaud man.

  • I really don’t know if LJ knows what a incredible young woman she is. Watching her at the video her home I could see a deep love for family and claim this to other people. I know others have commented on her physical beauty, but it is your inner beauty that makes her very special. She’s super intelligent and very articulate for someone her age. She will be the type of person that exceeds in life but will never look down on anyone.

  • These two really know what they want in life and i hope they achieve that. Wishing you guys all success. Thank you for sharing their stories.

  • I think its best if you can orford ah laptop you buy the young lady one , are give her one out of the three you say you have , instead of making her come over your house , you still ah stranger

    • I get where you are coming from. I have 6 terminals and I offer it to my neighbors and students free access for school use only. I even print for free while paying for the toner and print paper myself. That’s why I cannot offer to give away my resources as it serves a greater purpose. Keep watching, LJ and Jericho will both be surprised soon

  • i wish LJ and Gerko all the best in their future, they deserve it, such simple lovely people who are doing the best for themselves, keep up the good work 🙂luv from the UK

  • I hope Lj and Gericho go far to not only better themselves also making a better life for themselves and their families. Lj has such a good heart and always open to talk, I honestly think we can learn a lot from them being more humble and friendly towards each other.

    • At the end of the day, that’s what we humans are meant to do. The west just morphed into something I don’t understand anymore while the Philippines has preserved its cultural values

    • @Q Adventures I can’t say I am from the west or east more like snack bang middle nearly South Africa but even here same problem I would date LJ in a heart beat why she is honest friendly humble great smile and someone you can have an actual conversation about probably anything and everything without any bs

  • How inspiring is it that this young lady is attending such a demanding degree with little to no resources or finances.

  • Regular Guy recommended your channel on one of his videos. Glad I checked it out! Love your channel and how you are helping the people there. Maybe we can meet when I get there in about 6 months.

  • Nice one man, so good to see the smile on lj when you offered her help with computer.
That will make her studies so much easier!

  • sadly filipinos have a culture of to wanna outdo each other, its like a competition in their own minds, it makes them feel better when they think they have a better life than their peers or neigbhors, even the filipinos whos immigrated to the US, the mindset is still there

  • I am from Ireland I am going Cebu Feb 29 , just to make 1 thing clear there is no judgement for anyone in Cebu or any one in poor condition on how they live , god live you just as you are

    • If I’m around town, yes. We are planning some international travel, but not sure if it will materialize. Remind me in February
