I know they have programs at the VA for homeless vets. Not sure about the Phillipines. But their is offices located inside the VA hospital. Maybe check to see if they have one at the VA hospital there.
As I understand it, the VA hospital is up in Manila. And we are back to square 1. He has no resources to go to Manila and the VA might or might not be able to help. If they are, great… but if they are not, he will be stuck in a worst position than where he is
Thank you, but we are based in Vietnam now and this is a last ditch effort to help this man gain access to what he is entitled to. He doesn’t have the resources to do it and we cannot do it for him while in Vietnam.
First time seeing or hearing anything about this gentleman and I have advice that may not be welcomed.
Go Home!
As a Veteran there is no better place to get help than CA. The embassy will front the money to fly home. The homeless Veteran assistance in CA can sort out all of this in 3-6 while getting him stabilized and set up with all these programs and in 6-8 months he can be back on a plane more stable, secured future and not have to worry about the whims of others..
Go Home!
It may suck for a minute of your life, but in the end it will be far better for you!
As I understand it the US Emabssy will ask to call three people you know in the US and if they all say No they will not help you the US will loan you the money to get home and once VA Assistance kicks in that can be resolved.
He knows nothing one “home”. No support, etc. And embassy is located in Manila and won’t grant him the request as you state it will still take months for processing
He can get a doctors note stating he has life threatening mental illness and the US embassy will give him a ticket back to the states its called emergency funding he will also have to write a letter forgiveness to immigration. when he gets back here as a veteran he will get all the help he needs
U.S. repatriation loans
These loans may be available in specific cases for destitute U.S. citizens needing to return to the United States. Repatriation loans may cover:
Transportation expenses
Temporary food, lodging, and fees
Medical expenses, if needed, to stabilize the U.S. citizen for return to the United States
Your passport will be restricted until you pay the loan back. The embassy or consulate can explain eligibility requirements when you apply.
He hasn’t been there for over 35 years, as i understand, it. Even if he wants to, it still circles back to not having the ability to go to the embassy in manila, sit around and wait for the embassy to approve and process. While helping Ken, the Welshman, in the past, emergency leave took him over 6 months
@qadventures does he have his passport? it can all be done through the consulate in Cebu he can get it done fast if you have all these things (1)Pass port or ID (2) Doctors note stating his problem is life threatening (3)NBI clearance (4)write a letter kindly asking for forgiveness and stating sorry for being a burden to the Philippines. submit them all If he does these things and goes to the consulate they will help he needs to submit them and keep going back everyday when its cleared they will give him some money needed and a plane ticket . fly to a state that gives shelter to homeless vets. he needs help This is what he needs they will house him back here and give him the proper support he needs from other Vets. it wont take six months after he gets what i just said. that’s his life line if he cant get all those things don’t try they will be needed just like i stated
@qadventures that’s his first step lost passport and get a new one needs to get the consulate to call immigration write that letter so they can grant him forgiveness and wave his past dues after that he can apply for a temporary passport im sure he will get black listed over staying that long but they will forgive if he writes that letter hes going to (blank) there! its best to work to get him the help he needs not prolong his agony but im giving you knowledge what needs to be done in order for him to get the proper care. if he doesn’t want than at least he can make that choice because its his life line. he will need help they also have a VFW in Angeles city but where maybe some vets there can help now you know its a tuff task. Its nice to know if he does those things he can start over again here with proper care . You might just want to ask him but he might choose to just blank there
With all respect, he should go home!
I hear your concerns but all the services and access to paperwork he need is available in the US and trying to string along waiting on paper that may or may not come is not a plan, it is avoidance.
Have you even reached out to @paulinthephilippinesolddog9234 as he is a local Embassy contact point?
I was a Homeless Veteran for a long time and nothing is ever quick or accurate the first time. Stringing along in Manila waiting on paperwork does not sound like a plan it sounds like avoidance. The VA Medical in Manila does not have the latitude to assist the way the VA in the states does. Drop into SFO and walk into the VA and let the system work as efficiently as it can..
Go to the American Embassy. They will buy him a ticket back home. He will have to sign a note stating he will pay them back when he gets back home. If he don’t pay them back, they will not come after him for payment.
Get home! They fukn don’t want you there. Get the emergency Embassy loan or ..hey dude making the video…foot the 800 dollar ticket. Or quit exploiting his situation
I was on active duty when the RIF happened under Clinton. Those service members with over 15 years of service were offered reduced early retirement benefits under TERA.
I’m sorry but get your ass up and stop being a victim. Pull yourself up and be a men. There are people who are in 10x worst situation and they still get up and stand umder the scorching heat just to make a few cent. Look at him sitting there drinking coffee like he is waiting for people to help him. SMH
What about his social security . Didn’t he apply?
That’s part of it. He is missing documents to open a bank account to receive his benefits, social security AND VA
He should have had his affairs in order before flying overseas.
. More to this

Call the Embasay and when they say they cannot repatriate him then and only then in my opinion is crowd sourcing a plan..

You are correct and it’s a long process
He should have used the donation he received to go home, get things sorted out and come back.
Unfortunate a Vet has to jump through paper work to get his benefits
He also takes responsibility for neglect and being uninformed
Why did he choose to rely on employment in the philippines to support himself? 🤦
I cannot speak for the man
Guys like him are dime a dozen, they act without planning
He can get a doctors note stating he has life threatening mental illness and the US embassy will give him a ticket back to the states its called emergency funding he will also have to write a letter forgiveness to immigration. when he gets back here as a veteran he will get all the help he needs

He shouldn’t be here. How is he even going to pay for his visa.
With all respect, he should go home!

He doesn’t want help, they need to deport him. It sounds like he just wants to play victim.
