Wow! She really does have puppy dog eyes! What is the normal size of clams in the area? I’m used to Atlantic clams here. They can get quite large. There are some types (not near me) that can be 5 lbs or more.
Need to be careful with those Cone Snails, they can be venomous. Do the clams get bigger the farther out people go, or is it less picked so there’s more clams out there? Forget all the touristy stuff, this is the kind of things I would want to do, go out with the locals and let them show/teach me about what they do, this looks far more enjoyable and an experience I’ve never had and wouldn’t forget.
Looks like a Black Devil snail. Named for the smell of their decaying bodies. They’re harmless and edible. You do have to watch out for the toxic Cone Snails, especially the beautiful Textile Cone. It’s one of the deadliest toxins on earth.
I couldn’t even see the clams let alone the eyes. It is fascinating to see how good they are from such a young age. I bet those small clams would be good in a red sauce with some garlic in linguini or some similar pasta.
I clammed in Eastern Canada, Atlantic Ocean and believe it or not we used a bathroom plunger(new ones) . We did this to support our family. We would dig 10-15 buckets in a-trip, 2-3 hours. We also look for the eyes and then plunge a good size hole and get anywhere from one to ten or so clams per hole.
@barryg3693 I think that’s the way it is here on the east coast of the US as well. Not neccesarily the plunger but “clam beds” where there is one usually there is more.
these young women youve been blessed to meet have hearts of gold many are keepers and you can only wish the best for them, you dont see one ounce of evil they havent been corrupted.. love to treat them one day!!!!

Hey Derek, I was going through watching videos I missed. Came across the one where you offered to give Ashley an allowance to go to school. Is there any update on how that’s going? I know a few people had some reservations about helping her.

Ones I buy at the wet market is about 3 times that size. The size we were picking is too much effort for me to consume
All the ladies are pretty❤❤❤

They make clam rakes. Those are smaller clams, so you want to find a rake that has the metal bars closer together.
Thank you!!! I’ll see if I can find those rakes here
Oh who are you the clam pro 😢
Derrick maybe a short fine tooth rake
Thank you, Holly. I’ll give that a try

It is far more enjoyable. I travel to explore, not to be confined within whatever “all inclusive” resort that feels like I never left home

Oh wow!!! That’s amazing. I’ll share your technique with the locals here and see if that will be useful for them
They have clam shovels too. Where it goes deep and you can sift it out with a sifter.
